We gave away our 6th Dean Dimebag guitar this past Saturday, will all the proceeds from the raffle going to VH1's Save The Music Foundation. We raised a respectable $ 560.00. This year's guitar winner was Sal from the Bronx, and the tattoo winner was Nina (tattoo photos to be posted later).
Much thank everyone who participated this year, and of course to our friends at Dean Guitars - The World's Finest Guitars, Beaver Tattoos in Queens, and to John C. for his invaluable assistance. Happy and safe Holidays everyone.
You can contribute directly to the VH1 Save The Music Foundation HERE
DUFF'S has made the cut in the top Metal Bars/Eats list in New York on CBS.com. Check out the list HERE. The list was compiled by Metal expert and author Steve Seabury. His new (and very entertaining) cookbook "Mosh Potatoes" featuring recipes from the biggest acts and personalities in Heavy Metal, is on sale now. Get more information on Steve and his book: Mosh Potatoes by Steve Seabury
Check your local listings for VH1's "That Metal Show" airing this Saturday - The episode, "Scrap Metal", is the end of the season wrap up show, and was filmed at the bar. It was a hoot to once again have the TMS crew at "The Mecca" (this is the third time Scrap Metal was filmed at the bar), and we congratulate them on another successful season, and thank them for flying the Metal flag high.
The new issue of The Amazing Spiderman (#649) has a cameo by the bar's previous location on North 3rd Street as "A Biker Bar near the East River":
This Saturday, December 4th is our 5th annual DIMEBAG party, celebrating the life and music of Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott. This year, we will once again be raffling off a Dean Dimebag guitar, donated very generously by our friends at Dean Guitars. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the VH1 Save The Music | VH1 Save The Music Foundation (the winner of the guitar will be picked at our holiday party, December 19th). Since we moved the bar to Brooklyn in 2004, we've been able to raise over $ 8,500 for metal related charities, and with some extra effort this year, we hope to break the $10,000 mark. We you'll hope join us for one of the more raucous events of the year as we remember Dime, and raise some cash for a great charity.
Raffle fine print: Employees of DUFF'S and past raffle winners are not eligible to enter. No purchase necessary (other than the raffle ticket- $10 each). Winner need not be present to win, and entries by mail are acceptable. The guitar will be shipped anywhere in the world, free of charge. Any questions -firstname.lastname@example.org. Good luck !!!
DUFF'S, along with Eagle Rock Entertainment and Rhino records, is proud to be hosting the official CD/DVD release party for HEAVEN AND HELL'S " NEON NIGHTS ". The blistering live set, captured at The Wacken Festival, June 30th 2009, is the final professionally filmed and recorded live show of the band with the late great Ronnie James Dio (who turns in a stellar performance, as usual). In addition to screening the DVD and cranking the audio good and loud on the bar's sound system, we'll be giving away free copies of the new release. The event is for fans 21 and older, there is no cover or admission charge, and we'll fire up the tunes at approximately 9:30. "Neon Knights ! All Right !!"
A belated thanks (these hangovers aren't getting any easier) to everyone involved in another amazing weekend at the bar. The Halloween party on Saturday was a RIOT, and we had a great time with the always rockin' Jasmin St. Claire. And Sunday - Amazing. It was a calm, respectful, and that word again, bittersweet evening. A very civilized affair. I'm not so sure Peter would have approved (no human sacrifices or anything, lol). All the thanks in the world to Cathy and her family for coming out and spending time and sharing with the fans. It was a very special Halloween, one for "The Big Fella" - J. Duff
This Halloween is going to be our first without "The Green Man", Peter Steele. It wouldn't be right to let the holiday pass without paying tribute to our fallen friend. As you know, Halloween was Peter's favorite holiday, and we all looked forward each year to a Halloween tour/show from Type O Negative. Talk about a perfect pairing. For the fans, this is going to be a celebration of Peter's love for the holiday, and all things "Peter". The gathering, which is being held with the "green light" from the band and Peter's family, isn't going to be the big Peter memorial that has been discussed - When the time is right, that will be held down the road. With that said, we're all in agreement that if, and when such an event happens, it will be done right, or not at all. Have a fun and safe Halloween weekend everyone - Your friends at DUFF'S
Join us for our annual Halloween Bash at the bar where, along with the usual mischief, we will be hosting a meet & greet with former XXX star, Wrestler, and Metal VJ, Jasmin St. Claire. Jasmin will be signing copies of her new autobiography "What the hell was I thinking?!! Confessions of the World's Most Controversial Sex Symbol", which will be released by BearManor Media in November.
It's been almost a year since we hosted the official CD release party for SLAYER'S "WORLD PAINTED BLOOD", which is still in very heavy rotation on the bar's jukebox. We filmed some of the antics that evening and made a video for those of you who missed out, and for those who have no recollection of the evening. Once again, the video was put together by mo chara, Sean Patrick Murphy, who always manages to make sense of these wild nights. More importantly, he accepts payment in potatoes, which is helpful in this economy. Dig it:
It's time to get back to some of the fun stuff on the web site here, like the interviews, and the popular "DUFF'S GIRLS". This time around it's rocker Tiffini Truth from "Canadaland" as she likes to call it. The photos, as always, were all taken at the bar, with some shots very generously provided by Ellen Stagg. NOTE: There is some nudity (Egads!): Tiffini
We just got the word from Sweden: DUFF'S will be hosting the official after party for our friends WATAIN following their 12/02 headlining gig at Santo's party house with GOATWHORE and BLACK ANVIL as support. More details TBA as we get closer to the date. Tickets are on sale now (this show will sell out). The after party is free, 21 and older with ID.
Much thanks to everyone who came out for the Pantera party Friday night, it was definitely one the wildest nights we've had thus far since moving into the new location in December 2008. We'd also like to thank PANTERA, RHINO RECORDS, and "Nightcrawler" for their help and assistance in make this happening a reality. And, last, but certainly not least, we have a video here from our bud Vinnie Paul, aka "Big Vin", thanking the bar and it's patrons joining in on the celebration:
No T&A, just some Q&A - No hard hitting journalism either, just a fun B.S. session with "Metal Dave" Glessner on his 2fast2die blog outta Austin Texas: http://2fast2die.com/?p=1097
Friday Sept.10th, 9 PM

We'll crankin' up the remastered disc and giving away lots of CFH goodies, including copies of the new disc! No cover, and you must be 21 and older to attend this event. Get more details on this historic re-release and check out the official press release HERE
We put together a clip here of some of the antics from our buddy "Rusty's" birthday party at the bar back in April. The audio is the song "Blood on Wood" from Richard's band, and self titled debut Charred Walls of the Damned (and it has absolutely nothing to do with menstrual sex or prison rape). The video is, unfortunately, rated "G" and SFW.
CBS News online recently posted another one of their "Best of NY" lists, this time honoring the best Biker Bars in the city, with DUFF'S making the cut. The article can be viewed: HERE
BLACK METAL Demons and DUFF'S Loyalists 1349
(On US tour this Fall with TRIPTYKON, 10/06 NYC date)
We're back at it again this year with our friends from DEFCON Hot Sauce!! We're fryin' up 200 pounds of chicken wings and flavoring em' with three different kinds of DEFCON wing sauce : # 1, # 2, and # 3 (there will also be a very limited amount of the fucking blisteringly hot ZERO as well). The free party starts at 9 PM, and, unfortunately, is contingent on the weather, so hopefully we won't get any rain.
"NO BLUE CHEESE - DON'T EVEN ASK !!!"
DUFF'S will be hosting the East Coast release party this September for Rhino Records' re-release of Pantera's landmark major label debut "COWBOY'S FROM HELL". We will be announcing all of the details about the party as we get closer to the actual release date, which is September 14th - Stay tuned !
We were able to raise an additional $265 for The American Cancer Society, thanks to our friends at Rhino Records generously sending us some more CDs. This puts our total raised up to $1556. We have sent a money order out to Mr. Dio's management so they may send it in Mr. Dio's name. Once again, many thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, and to everyone who participated. Find out more about how you can help The ACS here: http://www.cancer.org/, as well The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund here: http://www.ronniejamesdio.com/
Tonight: Catch the latest episode of "That Metal Show" filmed at DUFF'S, it's the second edition of "SCRAP METAL". Check your local listings for VH1 Classics air times.
We are very honored to have been asked by Peter's family to host a memorial event for Peter at bar. The evening will be a celebration of his life and music, and a fundraiser for an as of yet, unnamed animal shelter, which will be gifted in Peter's name. The event will most likely take place in the late fall. We will, of course, let you know all the details as they are finalized.
Epic Records has released the official photos from the HELLYEAH photo shoot at the bar on April 26th, check em' out HERE in the HELLYEAH album
Friday night was one of the more fun nights we've had in a while - Following our Black Sabbath DVD party, our buds, and local Slayer tribute act "Silent Scream", were joined by Machine Head shredder Rob Flynn, who stopped by to hang. Also on scene, and joining in on the jam was Doc Coyle, from God Forbid. Following Rob's lead, they jammed out 10 or so classic metal covers, including The Trooper, Creeping Death, Breaking The Law, and South Of Heaven. It was a classic night for sure, everyone who was fortunate enough to be there left with a smile on their face. Check out some photos from the night in the photo gallery HERE.
THE METAL MECCA delivers another kick-ass evening for your enjoyment: Join us for one HELL of a party this Friday as we screen and give away free copies of The Classic Album Series's DVD release honoring the 40th anniversary of PARANOID!! Immediately following the screening, SLAYER tribute band "SILENT SCREAM" will be performing (Check em' out : HERE ). As always, there is no admission charge, and you must be 21 and over with ID.
Much thanks to everyone who came out Saturday night for the R.J.D. tribute - It was a fun and wild night as we raised $1291 for the American Cancer Society. A check will be sent out to Mr. Dio's management later on today, and it will be forwarded to the A.C.S. in the name of Ronnie James Dio. We still have a bunch of cds/dvds and t-shirts, so we'll be sending out another check once we move them too. Many thanks to R.Gill, Eagle Rock Entertainment, Nightcrawler, Rhino Records, and Mr. Dio's management & his wife Wendy for their invaluable help in making this event happen.
DUFF'S, along with Mr. Dio's record labels, Eagle Rock Entertainment and Rhino Records, presents an celebration of the life and music of R.J.D. and a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. While cranking DIO's back catalog, we will be conducting raffles, as well as giving away free DIO CDs and DVDs to everyone who donates $10 to the A.M.C. (we have over 100 to give away). We'll be raffling a lot of other cool stuff too, including an original piece of DIO artwork by JOEY JAMES, with all proceeds to go to charity. Join us for a great celebration and an even better cause \m/ \m/
Well, we sure had a lot of good times at bar with Peter over the years. Everyone who was lucky enough to enjoy Peter's company surely remembers his self deprecating sense of humor, his classic stories and quick wit. He was a born entertainer, no doubt. More than a few people have a "Peter story" from Duff's. I figured now would be a good time to share with everyone some never before seen photos of Peter that I have here. They're good for a much needed laugh. There's more photos that I will get to eventually, but here's a batch for now: Peter Steele. Cheers - Jimmy Duff
Our friends at "That Metal Show" wrapped another episode at the bar today, SCRAP METAL. It's going to be another highlight show, this time with highlights from the show's recent string of episodes filmed in Los Angeles. Naturally, we'll let you know when the air date is here.
Tuesday June 1st, @ Public Assembly in Williamsburg
R.I.P. - The world has lost a monster talent, and a super sincere, gracious, down to earth rock n' roller. Seriously, he was like the nicest guy in the world. It's true. Crank up some tunes today and raise the "malocchio" high in tribute to one of the original Gods of Metal \m/ \m/
Good News Headbangers - DUFF'S will be giving away 4 VIP/Meet & greet tickets for PRIMAL FEAR's show in New York City at The Gramercy Theater, Thursday May 20th. A lotta action at the Mecca this week as HELLYEAH commandeered the bar for a photo shoot Monday day for promo shots and album art for their upcoming release 'STAMPEDE" (set for 7/13/10 release). The band returned later that night to hang and party with the recently arrived in the country 1349 for their CD release party for their latest offering "DEMONOIR". The bar also hosted the official after show party for HELLYEAH following their kick-ass performance Tuesday night in Williamsburg. Good times a plenty, and memories that will last for a long time for anyone who was fortunate enough to make it out for either one of these events.
Check out the photos from these events in our photo gallery.
DUFF'S will be hosting the official after party for HELLYEAH tonight immediately following their show at The Music Hall of Williamsburg, 666 North Sixth Street Williamsburg.
The band has made it into the country and will be able to attend the CD party at the bar. However, the date has been switched from this Tuesday the 27th, to Monday the the 26th. From 1349's official web site:
"Finally we are on our way to the States! Frost is further delayed due to additional paperwork, but Tony Laureano will step in until Frost arrives. At the moment it looks like the first show will be at Crazy Donkey, Long Island on April 25th. The 26th will be spent at DUFFS in Brooklyn. See you all on tour!"
DUFF'S will be hosting the official listening party for 1349's new disc "DEMONOIR" on Tuesday, April 27th. No confirmation on if the band is going to be able to make it yet, due to the volcano ash scenario that has caused so much havoc with air flight. We'll keep ya posted on that end.
Since Josh has publicly confirmed the passing of Peter, it's now appropriate to comment on this very sad loss.
First of all, my sincere condolences go out to Peter's family, as well as Johnny, Kenny and Josh, Paul, Steve and Joey. I extend the same to all of Peter's friends and fans worldwide at this very difficult time.
Peter was an amazing artist, a true friend, and one hilarious character. He was a tortured soul as well, but that's part of what ultimately made his art so compelling. He's at peace now so that's the one consolation. That and the music and memories of good times that will always live on.
Thanks for all the music and laughs Peter, you will never be forgotten, and always missed. - J. DUFF
Our buddy Kerry flew into town Super Bowl Sunday to come hang with us and watch the big game at the bar. The bar was closed to the public as we enjoyed a decent game, and a not so relaxing evening of feasting, metal, and a few cocktails as well. We do get our fair share of world champions here in New York, so congratulations to all the long suffering Saints fans, especially all the former "Ain'ts". Check out the pix from S.B.S. 2010 here in the photo galleries.
Now that the bar is finally all moved & settled in, we're gonna get back to the interview bits here on the website. As stated before, nothing serious, just random bullshittin' over drinks with interesting folks that happen to stop by the bar. This time, once again, it's our buddy Richard Christy who was also the first interview back in 2007 at the old spot. Here's the mostly coherent, and as always, verbatim chat with "Rusty" about his new band, The Stern Show, and of course, all things metal: HERE
NO COVER, 21 + WITH ID
When we started this bar, all we needed was a laugh...
Years gone by...I'd say we've kicked some ass...
Ready or not, here's 2010 and a new decade, which brings us to the bar's 11th anniversary. It's been a long and crazy journey with the bar relocating three times within in that span. That's unheard of, and hopefully for anyone else, unprecedented. We just passed our 1st year in the new spot, and it's just about broken in right. Nothing else has changed - We're gonna mark the event with some extreme music, and some extreme living.
First off, I'd like to thank myself very much being such a kick-ass motherfucker, and for making this event necessary . On serious note, I'd just like to go on the record and thank all of our friends, new and old, for all the support and crazy good times over the years. It's been a helluva ride. A bar is only as good as the people that frequent it, and we've got some of the best anywhere. That pretty much says it all. Cheers- JIMMY DUFF
